Conquer the Challenges of Learning European Portuguese
Facing challenges in mastering Portuguese in Lisbon? You're not alone. Let's tackle them together.
01
Lack of Accountability and Consistency
Learning a language requires consistent practice and accountability, which can be difficult to achieve independently. Having an in-person or online teacher ensures you stay on track with your learning goals. Regular lessons provide structure, helping you maintain momentum and avoid the common pitfall of falling behind.
03
The Pitfalls of Language Learning Apps
Apps like Duolingo can be a good starting point, but they often teach Brazilian Portuguese and may not reflect the nuances of European Portuguese as it’s spoken in Lisbon. Additionally, these apps sometimes present grammar that isn't used in day-to-day conversations. Our lessons focus on practical, conversational Portuguese, ensuring that what you learn is relevant and applicable in real-life situations in Lisbon.
02
English is Widely Spoken in Lisbon
Although Lisbon is a Portuguese-speaking city, English is widely used, especially in tourist areas and among younger generations. This can make it challenging to immerse yourself fully in Portuguese and practice your skills in everyday situations. Our lessons are tailored to help you build confidence in speaking Portuguese, even in an environment where English is often the default.
04
Overcoming the Fear of Making Mistakes
One of the biggest challenges in learning a new language is the fear of making mistakes, which can prevent you from practicing and improving. This fear is especially prevalent when trying to speak with native speakers. Our approach at Talking Sardines is to create a supportive environment where mistakes are seen as a natural part of the learning process. We focus on building your confidence so you can engage in conversations without hesitation.
